Amanda’s story

I have always loved the magic of baking, it reminds me of time spent as a child with my Mum at home in Cornwall.

Being the ‘middle child’ it was an endless battle for our parents attention and baking with Mum was time I really felt was all for me. Both in our pinnys, covered in flour, baking and decorating cakes, barely giving them time to cool before showing them off to the rest of the family. There was always that great moment when they would devour our labour of love and make noises of appreciation through crumb filled mouths. Memories that are often echoed by our customers today, who come to Fancie as an escape and for the same ‘me’ time I found all those years ago with my Mum. I left Cornwall to pursue my career as a pastry chef and the rest as they say is history.

Fancie was born in 2008 in my small kitchen at home in Sheffield after spending one Christmas surrounded by boxes of shiny foil wrapped chocolates and wondering why there wasn't the cake equivelant. So I set to work creating a cake that could be eaten alone or given as a gift with the same love which it was most definitely created.

Today Fancie has grown beyond all recognition from the days of my tiny kitchen; 4 shops with 27 Ambassadors, 7 Bakers and 2 Drivers later I’m proud of each and every one.

True to my vision our cakes are being given and received every day and as anyone who has been presented with a Fancie box will tell you, the moment you open the box to reveal the beautiful treats within is almost better than eating them… almost!
